I'm going straightly to what I thought about the movie instead of writing about the story before going to my impression like my previous entry. I am actually a fan of Hideaki Ito and was anticipating to watch this last two years. It is a nice movie. Watching the training they have to face is entertaining. What more is their dorky and funny character which fit to their given nickname of sea 'monkey'. However the last part is not that impressive at least for me... I was anticipating a more emotional and tugging your heartstring kind of ending when it comes to the part they Senzaki waited for his 'buddy' under the vast ocean. I know it wanted to show the value of loyalty but it doesn't bring out a dramatic effect to the screen. I was hoping there is action involved... although just staying with the buddy is relevant to what the movie want to convey (on the loyalty part) but it somehow bore me as I would appreciate action more on the screen especially when I assumed there will be those kind of scenes since we are talking about rescuer, action comes to my mind. Maybe it can be a little better if the director insert some music at the part so it can boost viewer's emotion a bit. Concludingly, it is no way a failure as it brings a good entertainment and a difference in Japanese cinema. It is even box office in Japan. It's just lacking some spice but.. the taste is good still.

Umizaru movie is followed by a drama series and then a sequel movie, Limit of love: Umizaru (international title: Umizaru 2:test of trust) Umizaru 2 is really good and better than the first one in my opinion. If I have the mood I'll write about it.
